*** Outing is FULL ***
We apologize, but this outing is now full and we are no longer taking registrations.
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 16:48 pm, Thunder Bay is tilted the furthest away from the sun and we begin the long celestial trek back toward summer. It is a great time to reflect on the season and the quiet slumber of the forest.
This hike, weather permitting, is intended as a journey of quiet reflection in the forest in the spirit of Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”. The outing will be on foot or snowshoes depending on the snow conditions. We will meet at the Movati Centre at 1:00 PM and carpool out to the Cedar Falls Conservation Area. We will walk the relatively easy trail but navigate a challenging set of stairs to admire the new ice at the falls and look for animal tracks and birds in the ash / elm forest on the floodplain and the mixed forest on the ridge.
Cedar Falls CA is located at the end of Broome Road and is approximately 35km from the Movati Centre. The Cedar Falls CA is an LRCA property and parking fees apply. Either the daily permit purchased online ($5.00) or a valid Explore card is required.
Please register with Gerry Racey 807-939-1620 (gdracey@tbaytel.net). Registrations will be limited to 15 participants.
