Field Trip – McTavish Wetlands Nature Reserve

1, June 3, 2023 @ 9:00 AM

Visit two locations on the recently purchased McTavish Wetlands Nature Reserve to learn more about the property and the wetland protected there. A walk will follow the old PD rail bed to a beaver pond and cattail marsh complex located on the north boundary of the reserve. Time permitting, we will stop at a roadside forested location on the west boundary of the property. Spring birds and butterflies seen will add to the species list for this new property.

Meet and park at the roadside of Pearl Road 5 south (exits on the south side of Hwy 11-17, before you reach Pearl Lake). Travel 630 metres on Pearl Road 5 South to where the old PD rail (Kinghorn) line crosses the road. Park on the roadside. The group will walk east along the old rail bed to reach the north west corner of the reserve. Bring water, snack, insect repellant and sun screen. This is a half-day outing and we should be home for a late lunch. This field trip is moderate difficulty. For more information or to sign up, call Sue Bryan (345-6446 or email bryan@tbaytel.net).
