Field Trip Name: Visit new 100 acre addition to William Bog Nature Reserve, Vanguard Avenue

Duration: 3 hours

Level of Difficulty: Moderate.  Wet areas, logs and beaver dams to climb over in places.  Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet (boots NOT recommended).

Meet at 9 am in the parking lot in front of Movati Athletic Centre, 1185 Arthur Street West.  We will car pool from this location to Vanguard Avenue (location for roadside parking will be indicated when we get there).

This hike will introduce a large new block of land (100 acres) purchased by TBFN in June 2022.  The hike will be along unopened city road allowance of Vanguard Avenue.  Part of the road allowance is wet with streams and beaver dams, conifer wetland, and moss hummocks.  The road allowance extends through the wetland to a disturbed higher sandy ridge adjacent to the Harbour Expressway extension.  Wear footwear that you do not mind getting wet. Bring sun screen, insect repellent, water, and a snack.  The outing will proceed even if there is minor rain.
