The club survives and thrives on the generosity of its members.

We share a passion for nature and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to appreciate and enjoy the natural world. We advocate for the conservation of healthy, naturally functioning ecosystems and protect areas through our Nature Reserve land acquisitions.

Together, we are the voice to engage with nature in meaningful and inspiring ways through our walks and talks.

Join us and become part of a growing success story that began in 1933. We are a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency. Our registered charity number is 11926 4216 RR0001. We issue a charitable receipt for donations.

TBFN Nature Reserves Endowment Fund

The purpose of the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Nature Reserves Endowment Fund is to provide a permanent source of funds to support our Nature Reserves. The costs of holding these properties include taxes, insurance, signage, tree planting, and monitoring. Donations to the Endowment Fund are invested to provide a steady long-term flow of cash to pay these ongoing costs. Only the income generated by the fund is spent. All of the original capital is left in the fund. With day-to-day expenses looked after, our club can feel confident in moving ahead with the acquisition of new properties. Three TBFN executive members serve as Trustees of the Fund. With the help of a professional investment advisor, they oversee the management of the investments.

Donations to the Endowment Fund come from a number of sources. Some choose to write a cheque or donate cash. Others donate stocks or other marketable securities. There are definite tax advantages to donating stock rather than cash for some donors. Income tax receipts are issued for donations of either stock or cash.

Other donors may wish to name “Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Endowment Trust Fund” as a recipient of part of their estate. Copies of the Endowment Fund’s legal trust document are available to anyone who needs this information to share with their lawyer when planning such a bequest.

To donate to the TBFN Nature Reserves Endowment Fund, please forward your donation to: Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Club, 131 – 1100 Memorial Avenue, Thunder Bay, ON, P7B 4A3. Please include your name and address, the amount enclosed and how you wish to be recognized on the donor list, either by name or anonymously. Make cheque payable to Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Club. Note on the cheque: “For Endowment Trust Fund”.

To donate stocks or other securities, please contact the Nature Reserves Chair, Sue Bryan, at (807) 345-6446, or by e-mail: bryan@tbaytel.net
