Talk – Annual General Meeting (AGM) and General Meeting

Notice of Annual General Meeting of the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Club.

The Annual General Meeting of the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Club will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026 at 7 pm, at Lunan Hall, St. Paul’s United Church, 349 Waverley St., Thunder Bay.

Election of the Board of Directors will take place and the recently completed 2025 financial statements will be presented by the TBFN accountants.

A motion to approve appointment of the accounting firm for the 2026 year-end will be voted on at this meeting.

Voting is also available for members attending by Zoom. Please vote “yes” or “no” in the chat section at the appropriate time and we will record your votes.

Evening Program Presentation: Sea Lamprey in the Great Lakes

Speaker: Bruce Morrison, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Section Leader Sea Lamprey Control Lab, Sault Ste. Marie. Bruce has worked as a fisheries manager on lakes Erie and Ontario. He has worked on control of invasive sea lamprey across the Great Lakes basin, collaborated on wetlands research on Lake Ontario, and led programs such as Ontario’s food fish safety program. Bruce has worked for the University of Guelph researching sea lamprey, and at Fisheries and Oceans Canada conducting research related to acid rain and ecology of headwater lakes. His M.Sc research was on Lake Whitefish stock assessment with the Chippewas of Nawash. With over 38 years, his work has covered a balance of field and administrative work. He currently leads the control side of the Sea Lamprey Control Program at Fisheries and Oceans Canada overseeing treatment, barriers and environmental assessments.

Bruce’s passion for bird watching began at 8 years old and never left. Fishing, camping, hiking and travelling are also high on his recreational activities.

Bruce will talk about the introduction, life cycle, impact and control of sea lamprey in the Great Lakes. Information on lamprey research will also be discussed.
