Field Trip – Birding at the Hurkett Cove Conservation Area

Saturday, June 7 @ 8:15 AM 1:00 PM

Least Flycatcher

Enjoy a morning of bird watching with Samatha Krause and Susan Craig as we hike the trails of the Hurkett Cove Conservation Area observing spring migrants.  Hurkett Cove Conservation Area is located on Black Bay in Dorion Township, about an hour east of Thunder Bay.  What a great opportunity to increase our bird identification and birding by ear skills.  We plan to slowly walk approximately 3 km along a fairly level trail.

We will meet at the Landmark Inn parking lot at 8:15 am and we will depart for Hurkett Cove at 8:30 am (once waivers are signed and carpooling is determined). Alternatively, you can meet us at the Hurkett Cove Conservation Area at 9:30 am. The field trip should be finished by approximately 1:00 pm.

Please remember to dress in layers for the changeable spring weather (it could be quite cold in the morning) and to bring snacks and drinks and a picnic lunch to enjoy afterwards.  Rain gear may be needed, depending on the forecast.  Mosquitos and/or blackflies may be out, so be sure to wear protective clothing and/or bug repellant.

This trip is limited to 20 participants.  Please register by emailing Susan Craig at smcraig444@gmail.com  indicating your name, phone number and number of participants. Also, please indicate if you are meeting us at the Landmark Inn Parking Lot (8:15 am) or at Hurkett Cove Conservation Area (9:30 am).

Parking at Hurkett Cove Conservation Area is $5.00 per car or a current Explore Card purchased through the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (https://lakeheadca.com/about/store).
