*** Event Full *** Geology of the Thunder Bay Region

1, October 2, 2021 @ 10:00 AM

Join Gene Kent as we tour the geological formation of the region traveling back in time from our youngest rock formations, and early forms of life through to the formation of Lake Superior and the great continental rift. We look for evidence of magma chambers, and how faulting and veining created the amethyst deposits in Shuniah. We will search for evidence of meteorite impact materials and how life changed on earth after the great impact. A very ancient Maar Volcano will help to tell the story of the formation of our continent.

Meet at Silver Harbour Conservation Area at 10 a.m.,vehicles must display an LRCA Explore Card or pay the $5 parking fee at this stop. We will google map references for stops and participants are encouraged to download and try the “What Three Words” app on their cell phone.
